SPACE-BUS
BRINGING THE SAFETY
AND CONTROL OF A TESTBED TO ANY LOCATION

Autonomous cars on the road need to be monitored to ensure they operate with the highest standards of safety.

Space-Bus is a mobile autonomous vehicle monitoring solution

Unlike traditional fixed command hubs, Space-Bus can be deployed anywhere, anytime, offering the same level of safety and control of a modern AV testbed on the road.

THE CHALLENGE

WHAT IS A
COMMAND STATION?

There is a requirement to have a safety team monitoring autonomous vehicles. This often happens in a building called a Command Station where a team can watch how the vehicle is navigating, send commands to the vehicle and remotely take over control of the vehicle if necessary. Often these are set up in special AV test bed environments

During trials the team need to remotely monitor the vehicles as they navigate a route

Data showing how the AV is performing is fed back to the Command Station

One of the biggest challenges
in rolling out AV technology is moving
out of a single test bed and onto the roads in multiple locations in the real world.

Imagine you want to deploy a self-driving vehicle to deliver items for a retailer, then in a remote rural location and then on a commercial site such as an airfield or depot.

You will need a Command Hub to monitor them in each location.

THE INTRODUCTION

INTRODUCING
SPACE-BUS

With Space-Bus we have invented a way to allow any organisation to deploy autonomous vehicles anywhere within weeks.

Space-Bus works with our proprietary “Athena” system which can be used to deploy and monitor autonomous vehicles using a combination of our mobile monitoring and teleoperations technology.

To see everything the vehicle sees and monitor every aspect of its operating system.

Solar-powered

3 different networks

Mobility and Flexibility

No need for fixed infrastructure, simply take Space-Bus to where it's needed

Able to operate in remote locations where electric charging points may not be available.

Security

No need to integrate third party systems: Space-Bus uses its own secure connection and network,so all data can be stored on site on location

Once the trial has finished, the screens and sensitive hardware are simply packed away

Speed to market

Accelerates the procurement process by removing the need to access any of the systems or buildings on a partner’s site and cuts the set-up time down from months (even years) to weeks.

No need to search for offices and install hardware and networking

Saving Money

Organisations can save hundreds of thousands of pounds in setting up multiple Command Stations

New employment opportunities for drivers

No technical software experience is required to operate the Command Chair and remotely drive vehicles, just a short training course.

We believe experienced drivers will make the best remote safety drivers

Comfort

Enables your team to work in comfort in any location and in all weather conditions.

THE NEWS

SPACE-BUS
IN ACTION

The system has already been deployed in several trials including trials with the Royal Air Force on the UK’s largest RAF air base, filmed by BBC Click.

"Today we came over to see how Kar-go works, the functionality behind it, the Command Centre, what that has to do with it and how that works as part of one organism more than anything else and I've gotta say I have been quite impressed by what has been on show here.... I'm loving what I've seen so far"

- Omar Mehtab, Presenter BBC Click

“We're not just stuck in one location a lot of the time in the Air Force: We move abroad and we go on operations and do exercises overseas. So having a mobile command hub to be able to operate our vehicles would be a really, really big force multiplier.”

- Squadron Leader Tony Seston, RAF Engineer and Astra Ambassador
